Last month my older sister had her baby shower, along with her younger sister. (Sort of confusing I know.) They had a joint babyshower since they were due so close to eachother. I was super excited. I always love the chance to make things for people. (Oh and of course for having a new nephew on the way! ^_^ ) But, because at that time I was working 60+ hours a week between my two jobs, I didn't have time to actually make anything. :(
So what do I do? Go crazy cram crafting! I made all this in less than 24 hours. Excluding the lion which I had made months ago and just didn't have anyone to give it to until now. I went shopping for the materials and sewed everything the Friday before the babyshower. Which was hectic. My little sister, Jessie, and I had to leave that friday afternoon to drive the 4 hours south to where my sister lives. That cut my time even more.

I made them both gifts last minute. Here's some pictures of how the first round of tie-onesies went (a tutorial on how I made the tie-onesies coming in a few days!) along with everything else I made for the shower.
So, the Friday before the babyshower. I made two baby changing matts, one large blanket, one of my striped-snuggle blankets (a link to how I made the snuggle blanket will be posted below) and I decorated four onesies and one t-shirt. It was a busy busy craft day. My little sister, Jessie, made the LUKE sign.
I wasn't done with everything the day of the shower either... I ended up finishing the stuffed lion I made on the WAY to the babyshower. I had to add eyes and sew him up. Talk about cutting it close... Everything was a huge hit! This was the first time I had giving someone a whole bunch of items I hand-made. I got a lot of attention and some people didn't believe that I had made a couple of the items. My adorable lion included. I was really nervous to see what people would say or think of everything. I am always over thinking. I may think it looks really good, but will others? Is what I always ask myself. I had made a few things here and there and given to people to give at showers and such, but this was the first time I was present when people saw my items. Needless to say, everyone was extremely positive. I had many people tell me they wished they had received one of the large snuggle blankets at their baby showers. I always thought to make it bigger so the child could grow into it and not lose their favorite blanket as they grew. (That was my experience growing up) I'm just glad others recognized the idea. Sometimes its hard to get your ideas through the right way. My lion was a major hit. Just as were my elephants I had made for my baby cousin. They are just undeniably adorable and a lot easier to make then they look. |
I loved the fabric I ended up with for the striped-snuggle blanket. I went with a whale theme for my sister Ashley and baby Luke. The backing I made black. Since I planned for the blanket to last a long time, I thought to make the backing a super dark color to hide dirt and all that. I love that whale fabric. I wish I had bought more for my stash.
Figuring out how to make these tie-onesies was the best part. It was really the one project for the baby shower I was really looking forward to! I used just store bought onesies. I cannot sew that good. : )
It was a lot of fun making these. The project itself is super easy and the result is adorable. I made matching ties for my nephew and his baby brother. Once I get a picture of both of them wearing them together I will add it to the post! :D
Anywho, keeping with the whale theme I drew a way outline and added it to a onesie aslo. After I made these and posted them up on my facebook, I had a few people ask me about them. I just recently finished an order for 5 of them. : ) I am currently putting together a halfish tutorial on how I make them.

For my sister's little sister's present, whoa is that confusing... I went with a simple safari theme. I had asked their mom what her theme was going to be and I was told she loves giraffes so I went with giraffe print. : ) My lion ended up being the perfect match. He finally got to go somewhere besides my finished projects bin.
I have this bad habit of seeing a project I want to do, baby items or what not, and work on them. Finish them and I have nothing to do with them. I tend to have a back stock of random finished crafts all over the place. Or worse, half finished projects tend to be a big issue too haha.
All in all, despite being super last minute, everything turned out great. The only thing that mattered is that they loved their gifts. That's the best feeling. :) I couldn't make it down to my sister for the birth, but I saw all the pictures on facebook. As I was scrolling threw them, there's one picture of my new born nephew wrapped up in the blanket I made for him. :) Totally made my day. One of the best feelings in the world <3
